Britain’s Got Talent has still got it; ratings for the first show in a new season were higher than ever. Our usual approach on Sofabet is to start writing posts during the semi-final week – when the running order and other classic Cowellian techniques, make abundantly clear who is being promoted.
There’s plenty of time for speculation before then though, and Sofabet commenters are invited to get involved in the discussion below. I’ll start the ball rolling by saying that I think Lucy Kay was the most interesting contestant in the opening show, which is when we saw eventual winners Attraction last year. Agree or disagree? Let us know.
Ouch, Lucy was the least interesting one for me from the 4 pimped ones. Not that the others produced any significant wow moment though (I knew who Paddy is). At this point I could see Paddy and ‘boyband’ going furthest. I liked Ukraine act too but am worried about reports ‘this year is for a Brit to win’.
Paddy and Niceowere pimped to high heaven as were also featured on Britain’s Got More Talent. The question is though, how far will they want the 79 year old to go?! Surely they won’t push her for the win. I liked Collabro, as did my mum and think they will go far.
Well after watching tonight’s show I still haven’t spotted a potential winner, not a British one anyway! Are we really going to get a type of act that has never won before who is also British? I guess Simon’s golden buzzer choice will be crucial and am guessing they may save this act till last which, goes against the usual BGT precedent.
Make your own conclusion from the fact that Paddy got 14 million YT hits within a week.
So did Susan Boyle.
So did Attraction. The point is not that she will win but I’m puzzles she’s not the favorite at the moment.
Quick update: The YT hits for them, Boki, on the BGT channel video are now at close to 19 million views.
Btw, while looking,up that YT video, I happened to notice that the Darcey Oake YT video, published on the same day as the Paddy and Nico video, has racked up near 16 and a half million views.
In YT views, they so far look light years ahead of the rest.
Collabro, for example, have only just breached the 3 million view mark. Despite their video being published a week earlier than P & C’s and Darcey’s.
She(Paddy) somewhat reminded me of the Queen in terms of her presence/demeanour. I’m obviously not on about the dancing! Simon Cowelll will only be able to make money from her in the short term due to her age and I’m guessing her age and the throwing her about type dancing will make her a liability and one in which I think TPTB may not want to take that risk with?
Been trying to catch up been so busy lately. Most impressive for me were the lazer dancers. Biggest value financially the young boy singers. And we all know the eventual winner has been aired in the 1st (most likely) or 2nd audition episode
I enjoyed them too, stoney, but I question how much actual dance ability the actual performers have, though I do acknowledge that their choreography and timing are sublime.
More and more of the acts seem to be on an international BGT grand tour:

They could all be exceptional dancers (and probably are), but there’s no way to accurately judge. The speed and partial nature of the light show and the music makes it v difficult to judge if they are absolutely hitting their moves.
They can get away with being slightly “off” in a way that wouldn’t be an option, for example, for the ballet and contemporary dancers of Attraction, last year.
Could there be a reason why Collabro were on ITV’s This Morning 2 weeks after their audition was aired and the day before the next show? Most people go on This Morning the week following their audition.
The talent has really seemed to dry up this year on BGT and it’s been really boring to watch! This time last year we had Attraction, Richard & Adam, Jack Carroll, Luminites to name a few. After watching last nights show the only potential winners I see are still Paddy & Nico and Collabro. P&N gave us the wow and shock factor and Collabro are just fantastic imo. As Stoney says the eventual winner has been aired in the 1st or 2nd audition show although I have a feeling they are mixing things up a bit this year by going against their usual precedent
5 seconds on youtube brings up that P&N won a Spanish TV BGT-clone show a few years back and that the UK news even reported on it. Wouldn’t be too much of a surprise to find out they were headhunted onto the show (amongst others) to fill a lacklustre roster. Big hurdles for shock value acts – the final is the third time you’ve seen them and it’s no longer a shock.

I like many had never seen or heard of them prior to BGT
Me either and that’s why I started searching. To be fair, their current act looks better/more polished than the youtube of their winning performance on the other show and hey, don’t we all want to be that spritely at 80?
It’s not really going to stay out of the press though that P&N are previous TV winners and that either makes them plants or serial contenders, neither of which is particularly endearing.
There’s already negative media comment (assuming a desire for a UK winner) with the Mirror revealing that the act is Spanish resident.

I believe they are aiming for a UK winner and that is what we’ll get and although she lives in Spain, she speaks the Queen’s English and is British. Simon is always shown to be saying he is looking for something ‘different’ and something we have never seen before and that’s what we got with P&N. Out of the first 3 audition shows shown, I fail to see anyone other than P&N that fits the 2 things Simon wants (never seen before and British). Anyone else have any other views?
We’re playing over old news, huff post was writing about this weeks ago.

The article also confirms that they were asked onto the show.
I have to disagree about British (half of the act isn’t and the British half isn’t resident – you can just hear the Daily Mail gnashing to ask her what she does with her winter fuel allowance) and never seen before (at the end of the day, they are dancing and we’ve all seen dancers).
I somewhat agree with the former but not the latter. She speaks English, and very well which will overpower the fact that she lives in Spain, that’s if it is even mentioned in the Semi’s. Yes we have all seen dancers before but not a ‘dancing granny’. There was a lot of hype around it just like the hype about Ashleigh and Pudsey the ‘dancing dog’. I believe they have plans for her to be top 3 and at the moment am 75% sure she’ll get there.
Looking at the audition clips of the first 3 in the betting:
I liked Richard and Adam and Adam and Adam and Adam. Obvious appeal with a clean-cut Christian twist. Neat name.
SuperGran and Steven Seagal were entertaining. A daredevil septuagenarian performer. She said she will be 80 this July. If this BGT mirrors last year’s then this year’s final will fall during the 2nd week in June. Pity that she won’t be dancing as an octogenarian. I find him a bit aggressive-looking. Something off-putting about him.
Wentworth Miller’s probably the best illusionist they’ve ever had on BGT. Didn’t catch Cowell’s feedback but I wonder if he felt the same.
It looks like the reason BGT were happy to pimp the Hungarian act Attraction for the win last year is becoming more apparent. BGT felt the British talent pool was close to being overfished. Darcy, a Canadian, must have been encouraged by Attraction’s win last year.
A Canadian guy; and a dance act featuring a ex-pat Brit and a Spaniard – featuring as 3rd and 2nd in the betting, respectively. ‘Britain Hosts Talent’ is a more accurate name.
I wonder if Collabro’s home-growness gives them an edge, so far and here? They are a bit dull, though. Not that that factor ever hindered Cliff Richard’s career.

More of Darcy.
Brilliant. Oh, and very easy on the eye!
Love this guy! Can’t stop watching this!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQe8iXqpFgk
He naturally reminds me a little of a young Gary Oldman.
He has his limitations (!) but the comic timing of this guy is genuinely sublime.
Bars and melody the ones to break the early audition hoodoo?
I don’t think so to be honest. They remind me somewhat of Gabbz last year. They will be finalists but NOT winners imo
They reminded me of the ones who sang about the boys grandad. Not sure if it was last year or the year before. Seeing a lot of face book hype about the boys tonight. The sob story is a good one that touches a lot of people. Dangerous
It definitely wasn’t last year, pretty sure they were on the year before. They did bring a little tear to my eye but can’t see them winning. I read stories weeks ago about Simon not being sure about his golden buzzer choice. If he had plans for them to win then I think they would have been shown early on, say first or second show pimp slot. Or, they would have left Simon’s golden buzzer act for the pimp slot on the last audition show which would have made people wait in anticipation as to who Simon pressed for which, would have made a bigger impact. Instead, it’s Ant and Dec’s golden buzzer act which is being shown last. It’s still very hard to call this year, no one has really wowed me apart from Collabro and Paddy and Nico, the latter purely because I have never seen them before and I was amazed at what she could do, I was left gobsmacked! I have placed EW bets on both but have no idea what act TPTB will push.
The BGT intro tonight featured golden buzzer acts Paddy & Nico and Reformed…………………not Bars and Melody or Christrian. This further confirms my suspicions that they do not have big plans re a podium place finish for B&M
I think youve swayed me a bit tash, rappers dont have a good record on these shows, i think im gonna back the dancing granny
They weren’t featured on Gogglebox either which I know doesn’t mean much but going back to X Factor last year, Sam Bailey was featured almost if not every week.
The dancing granny was shown on there though………………
Was anyone else from BGT featured on Gogglebox? 😉 😉
From the 1st audition show it was Paddy & Nico shown on Goglebox, from the 2nd audition show pretty sure it James Smith although i’m not 100%, audition show 4 it was Eva Iglesias, audition show 5 rather than Bars and Melody it was the gay Italian dancers that were shown and audition week 6 it was Jodi Bird. I don’t recall who from audition show 3 was shown unfortunately
Lucy Kay was also shown from the first audition episode. But not Collabro.
Oh ok, didn’t realise she was also shown, thanks!
It was Darcy Oake from audition show 2 shown on Gogglebox NOT James Smith! And yes, the dancers are French not Italian as previously stated
Today’s Sun newspaper reports that Paddy has broken Ribs and may miss the finals.
I’ve taken 12/1, 10/1, 8/1, and got her in a huge double with Conchita
(oh dear).
I’ve also taken a punt on her so fingers crossed!
http://www.dailystar.co.uk/showbiz-tv/britain-s-got-talent/380514/Britain-s-Got-Talent-salsa-gran-faces-axe-from-the-show-after-breaking-a-rib-in-training
All the papers say different things so! One said that she may have broken a rib, another says she has broken several ribs! We don’t know which is true so am taking the stories with a pinch of salt.
We now know that they will be in semi final 5 and I suspect they will get the pimp slot.
Attraction had pimp slot in audition show 1 and also had pimp slot in semi final 5…………………..
think ill hold fire for now until we find out if shes ok
Just caught up on clips of some of the favorites, with a focus on groups.
It’s interesting to me that Bars & Melody aren’t being featured now. They got Simon’s golden buzzer and the rapper reads to me like a star (albeit too young atm, obviously) They have to do different songs in the other rounds right? Maybe the producers know that none of them are all that good.
It took me a second watch to click with Reaformed. I guess XF seemed reasonably behind Miss Dynamix before one of them got pregnant, and they’re a likable version with more chemistry. Trying to go to the urban side of Little Mix. The lead is very young and has quite a bit of potential.
Collabro – Some pretty strong individual voices, mostly the 3 on the left. #2 from left would be an excellent boyband member all around. Pretty limited chemistry so far. In general, doubt they would be marketable to teens, a little too old and cleancut. Not sure what to do with them commercially though it seems they could tour small venues for a year with a high finish. Maybe this is why they are not being featured.
Sweetchix – Nice chemistry and a couple of them are pretty charismatic. Very little star power. Young enough that I might think about developing them for an XF shot in 2-3 years when Little Mix is getting a bit old for the tween audience.
I’d have predicted Paddy & Nico as a lock for top 3 as the feelgood story of the competition until the latest news.
The magician is slipping under the radar at the moment. Sure to get a big female vote
Watching BGMT and hoping we will find out who is on tomorrow
