BGT 2013 discussion continuation thread: Semi-final 5

A fourth good night in a row for favourite-backers, with Francine Lewis final-bound along with Asanda Jezile. But will it be a fifth? Ladbrokes have priced up Saturday’s final semi, with Attraction the 1/4 favourites. It’s then 5/1 Aliki, 10/1 Jordan O’Keefe, 16/1 Steve Hewlett, 66/1 Incognito and Maarty Boorkman, and 100/1 CEO Dancers, Duelling Pianos and The Glambassadors.

Debate has raged all week in the Sofabet comments about producers’ likely attitude towards the Hungarian shadow dance troupe. Are you expecting them to be nobbled in the semi, nobbled in the final or given every help to win? And – bearing in mind we now have five singing acts out of eight so far – who do you reckon will get the wild card? Here’s another clean slate for discussion.

tomorrows big value bet is jordan okeefe to qualify 2/1

    • Guildo Horn Forever

This semi confuses me. Can’t decide if Aliki or Jordan is the qualification bet.
I notice on the bf outright market for the final that Jordan is 66/1 and Aliki is a shade under 12/1: which would suggest that the 4/5 for Aliki to qualify for the final is more generous than (the now) 9/4 for Jordan to do so.
I’ve read a lot of Aliki love on this site and hardly a mention of Jordan.
But is his regional base a powerful factor? Especially against Aliki Chrysochou?
And can safely Steve Hewlett be discounted?

Was wondering what’s nudged you towards Jordan over Aliki.

  • gwri78

Bad night….. I’m straight in with a lay of attraction tomorrow if anyone wants to take it! More sensible odds this time though. Well done Andy & all winners

    • Guildo Horn Forever

Asanda in second minimised losses for me. It would have been better if I’d stuck to focusing on the qualifying market.

  • Tish

I took a small bet on Aliki to win purely for the value (11/2 with Coral) and Jordan to qualify (15/8) and also took a punt at Steve Hewlett to qualify (4/1) again, purely for the value. I really don’t know what they are going to do with Attraction but I suspect that as the viewing figures are going to be the highest for this semi, I don’t think the producers are going to want to dissapoint and will put on one hell of a show. After all, everyone has been waiting for Attraction and I just dont know if I can see them throwing them under a bus and dissappointing it millions of viewers. I still can’t back them though. We will have to wait and see what happens tonight.

  • Stoney

I’ve gone in big with Jordan to qualify at 2’s purely because there’s no trendy male solo acts in the final, the teenie/Irish vote will be huge if he’s given a decent slot

    • Tish

The fact that he featured early in the auditions could help also. Aliki has the biggest sob story ever and said if she wins she will marry the bloke who stood by her. Pass me they sick bucket lol. Stoney, maybe you could fill us in with any inside info should you accidently overhear anything whilst there tonight 🙂 I just topped up my bet for Jordan to qualify.

      • Doesn’t that sob story have limited traction second time around?

I too favour Jordan, not just because of his Irish connection but because he’ll appeal to the female voters too.

One of the two will be under tonight’s bus, so will topup accordingly.

      • stoney

ive been to the last 2 x factor finals and never heard any rumours inside the arena so dont hold your breath, the internet is always the first place to get rumours

      • Henry VIII

I missed that bit about her partner. And if she doesn’t win she dumps him?

    • Boki

Irish connection won’t help if he’s the one thrown under the bus, they will not choose him in that case. I favor him because of the only “trendy male solo act” in the final.

      • I’ve gone for Jordan to qualify, accepting the risk that he may be thrown under the bus. Agree with everything said above and I can add that the very similar Sam Kelly and Ryan O’Shaugnessy won their semi finals last year, but Jordan is better looking and more talented then either of them. Michael Collings also did well in 2011 being a guy-with-a-guitar. Jordan is also probably better within his genre than Aliki is within hers, although I do think she’s a big danger given the power of her story.

        • Guildo Horn Forever

Yes, that back story, in combination with her incandescent sweetness, worries me too.
But I think I recall writing (on this site) in praise of Jack Carroll a while ago and comparing the power of his ongoing story compared to the that of the recent history of Aliki’s, labelling her struggle a ‘memory’.
She’s sang her dedication to her (equally lovely) mum. She seems to be suffering no legacy from her near vegatative state experience. Hopefully that’s her story complete.
It’s a bloody nuisance (!) that she sounds, looks and acts like an angel! However that’s reflected in her price.
Following on from stoney’s analysis, it has been noticeable from the semis that the two young hip acts, Gabz and The Luminites, have been strongly pimped.
Being young and contemporary seem to be trump cards.
So I find I agree with stoney’s comment from yesterday that Jordan is the value bet (at 9/4 versus Aliki’s 4/5)
Hopefully the mums and the teenage girls will be too consumed with swooning over Jordan to remember Aliki.

      • stoney

ok let me touch on this more, i was at work earlier so had to rush my comment. Basically we have seen 2 fancied solo singers absolutely cemented under the bus, in 2 seperate semis, why is this? And im pretty damn sure they wouldnt do it for a 3rd time, otherwise there would be no point putting them all through, my thinking is jordan is the chosen one and the one they have always wanted in the final, i find it hard to accept they will want, 2 young child female singers in the final, 2 loud opera style singers (if aliki was to qualify) and no sign of a male solo singer or someone who plays guitar. Yes i accept the irish vote wont help if hes thrown under a bus, but basically cant imagine for a second he will be, there is a gap in the market for him, and hes better than last years 2 finalists who have never been heard of since. And what makes everyone think alikis sob story card will be used again? why would it be, in summing up i feel attraction are more liekly to be thrown under the bus than jordan

        • Cath

Stoney, you’ve convinced me! Having watched Jordan and Aliki’s auditions again (with the former having twice as many Youtube hits as the latter), I think Jordan has more traction to keep going. Aliki’s was a nice heartwarming story for the audition show, but we’ve heard it now and tonight will be more about performance. I expect to see Aliki thrown under a bus, Jordan pimped and Attraction take the win. I’m after a bit of value, so have take some of Jordan to qualify at 2.66. Attraction for the win are too short for me.

  • Interesting that Alex Keirl managed to creep into the top-3 yesterday, despite being thrown under a fleet of buses. Would Jordan be resilient to such a tactic?

That said, if he was 2nd in the running order, it’s unlikely the judges would pick him over an act performing later in the show.

  • stoney

also i challenge someone to correct me if im wrong, but i believe the winner of every semi final has been the one standing on the far right of the 3 acts that make top 3, and possibly the one who goes through out of the 2nd and 3rd is then on the left, not as sure on that one as the semi final winner theory though

  • stoney

lol i wasnt mentioning it from a betting point of view mate

  • Boki

    from their fb page:
“This Evening Attraction Shadow LIVE on ITV1 Britains Got Talent! We hope we will go through to the Final! I’m deticating our new performance all Mothers of the World!”

  • Boki

    Just took Jordan 3.25 @fred

  • Cath

Jordan will be dedicating tonight’s song to a friend who has recently passed away, according to his twitter account.

    • Guildo Horn Forever

A VT based on that narrative could be flippin’ HUGE.
Am imagining a tearful Jordan fighting back the tears.
      Excellent research.

  • stoney

just backed attraction NOT to win bgt at 4/5 on betfred, was only allowed to place 312 pound on it though

  • Andy

Listening to Aliki singing ‘May it be’ on Youtube,
    Absolutley Beautiful.
This song may spell danger to the Jordan corner.

    • stoney

ive just checked it out, very richard and and adam isnt it, will she possibly be splitting votes with the gospel choir with a song of this nature?

      • Guildo Horn Forever

That’s been my worry with Aliki, as well. I don’t want her in the final. Hopefully, TPTB see it this way too.

  • Andy

Standing ovation by judges could sway that possibility.
I have taken the 9/4 on Jordan to qualify simply because I feel he would appeal to the wider audience, Aliki’s voice is a acquired taste, unfamiliar to most BGT viewers who may not appreciate it. Jordan sure to get the youngsters vote.

  • stoney

Plus there is no one in tonights final likely to split votes with jordan, and there only going to give standing ovation to an act they want in the final, im unsure they want aliki in the final. If attraction have an early slot for me it will be good news financially on so many levels so listen out for some nutter celebrating in the audience lol

  • Henry VIII

I would have thought Aliki was more interesting than Jordan? He seems bland fodder to me. But as they pushed through Asandra who knows what they’ll do.

  • Andy

I too would be celebrating Stoney.
All my hard work and profit from the semi’s will be painfully undone if attraction should win in the final. R&A would take me all inclusive. Jack wins and its self catering, if Attraction win I don’t even get to Ryhl. 🙂

  • Guildo Horn Forever

Anyone had a bet on the Derby this afternoon?
I’m hoping for Chopin to improve upon Banoffee’s abysmal performance in the Oaks.

  • Kevin

Taken the advice and on Jordan at 9/4. I guess that Joseph Hall looks solid for the wildcard given the amount of singing acts gone through?

  • Andy

    Aliki on early.
    Very good news for Jordan.

  • Guildo Horn Forever

    They’re hedging their bets.

  • Andy

Rave reviews to all acts so far maybe a way of making sure Attraction do not get all the limelight.
    Has the knobbling commenced.

  • maccafan

Steve Hewlett. Stroke of genius with the Simon C puppet (however he fairs). First time I have laughed out loud this series.

  • Guildo Horn Forever

Bloody hell! Jean-Michel Jarre’s come down in the world!

  • gwri78

Not sure Jordan will get the call for 2nd with the judges there, layed off at 1.4 for profit either way, hope he gets it though

  • Andy

I had same idea, layed stake at 1.5 just in case.

  • Cath

So who does everyone think for 2nd and 3rd? I think Jordan is still likey, but up against who?

  • stoney

im sticking to my guns, not gonna bottle it, jordan will get put through against any other act, failing that he will at least get 2nd highest votes

  • Boki

Looks Jordan vs Steve and I layed off Jordan also, just in case.

  • stoney

2/5 now you guys bottling it are mad

  • gwri78

Attraction now nearly 1/2 outright – my strategy blown out of the water as ive already layed my max at 6/4….. Hopefully they set it up for R&A or Jack next Sat

  • Andy.

Dirty tricks looks to be the only way to topple Attraction now, i thought they may have started tonight, no such luck.

  • Tish

Attraction were good but it was no where near as heart wrenching as their audition. I can’t see any dirty tricks being pulled on them in the final to be honest which is bad for most of us. I still can’t bet on them though. May have to take an EW for Jack as well as the outright win I have already done

    • Kevin

Attraction may be an act that familiarity undermines somewhat. Simon did mention the “not British” angle also. Perhaps those on Jack should not panic, there is a long week there and Attraction could be nobbled yet. The gushing praise was worrying alright but with a big audience perhaps it was for tonight’s show as opposed to the Final itself. The performances on the night will be critical.

  • Andy

    Placing also critical.
Last place on the night and Attraction sure to pull it off.

  • trollgirl

It might be that Simon has pound/dollar/forint bills so big in front of his eyes he doesnt might undermining the britishness of the show a bit, so he can make a bit of cash on the back of it. I still think Jack Caroll will win in the end, but now I am fairly certain attraction will be on the podium.

  • shoulders

My bet placed just before the show tonight with Sporting Bet on Jordan to qualify was cancelled with the message void and my stake refunded. anyone know why that would happen?

    • Boki

Very strange, you should ask them why, I can’t see any reasoning except that you took an insane price they put by mistake (happened it once to me @victor).

    • Kevin

They may suspend betting when the show is comes on. Maybe you bet just as they suspended the market. Try and speak to someone to plead your case politely I think. I hope it was not too big a bet. The bigger it was the less likely they are to pay you too I’d say.

    • Kevin

They will argue that if you had backed a loser you would have got your money back too I’d say. They might pay out but it is at their discretion, you have little to back your case so if you try and shout them down you wont have a chance. Be plaintive and you might have a better chance. Best of luck with it anyway.

  • stoney

absolute belter of a night, made a few people some good money on here i think 🙂

  • stoney

i wont go into the balls up with my tickets, applause store have got a lot to answer for, but it was all made much sweeter with my winnings tonight, made a killing, yeah im still hoping the british public back our own in the final, my flag is firmly pinned to jacky boy, but in all honesty i couldnt really care after tonight 🙂

    • Did you turn up at 6pm instead of 8am like everyone else?

      • Stoney

No I had priority Tickets and my ticket clearly stated get there 1 hour before doors open yet when I got there they told me I should have got an email telling me bout a change of time which I never received. I’ll be phoning up Monday morning to sort this shambles out. But I’m on a high anyway

  • gwri78

Cheers stoney, great calls all week from you & all on here, roll on next week

  • gwri78

Just backed Joseph for the wildcard, 13/8 with sky

  • Boki

At the moment Attraction look unstoppable to me despite the fact I didn’t enjoy the act as much as the first time. Said that, I just layed the stake off and have a free run on them, Jack and R&A so don’t care what will happen.

  • stoney

dont want to blow my own trumpet but i should be an ambassador for this site when it comes to bgt LOL

  • Andy

You swayed my thinking today Stoney.
    Well done.

  • Andy

I am going to go all out on JACK to win.
Mind made up, no going back.
    sorry to backtrack on R&A.
