BGT 2013 discussion continuation thread: Semi-final 4

It was another semi where producers left us in little doubt about their intentions: The Luminites were given the mother of all pimpings, and the voting public dutifully played ball. Pre-Skool then beat out Joseph Hall to become the first dance act through to the finals, joining comedian Jack (named by Cowell at the start of the show as the act to beat so far) and the four singing acts.

Here’s a clean slate for dissecting the fourth semi-final. The acts: Chasing The Dream; Alex Kierl; Poppin Ron; Francine Lewis; Shockarellas; James More; Club Town Freaks; AJ & Chloe; Asanda Jezile. Have at it!

i dont know if i fancy francine lewis for this one, especially if she throws more stacey solomon at us, weve seen enough of that! initial thoughts point to asanda, but i may just have a night off, easier said than done

  • Tish

Dont liek Asanda, she pretends to be some shy little girl on stage and in reality, she appears to be a spoilt brat and a right little diva. Francine for me to add to the variety and then AJ and Chloe and james moore for judges votes. Purely goin on that fact that if these do go through, it’ll add more variety to the final. Will probably lump on francine for tomorrow

  • DB

Thought that Francine was the better impressionist out of her and Phillip Green, and it looks like the judges agree with that, by putting her in perhaps the most average of average semi finals possible. I will be taking the early prices on her once they become available in both the “To win” and “to qualify” market

  • Stoney

@ tish IMO = in my opinion. My reasoning for opposing francine is that I believe they have jack as the mainman for the final and will possibly dampen francine as she may steel some of his votes

  • Simon said Jack was the one to beat but just watch….tomorrow he will say Luminites and by the final he’ll have gone back to Richard and Adam. Lol 🙂

    • There we go, on More Talent he said Richard and Adam will get the older vote, Luminites the younger vote AND his vote. He didn’t mention Jackk or anyone that qualified in second 🙂

  • DB

How funny. No-one can’t say Simon Cowell isn’t predictable!! I’ve got Jack to be everybody’s second favourite act…he’s a very northern 14 year old too. That demographic is too big to be ignored 😉

Looked over the auditions of the next batch of 9 contenders.
Two of the acts look of interest for the semi win.

Now, there’s some acts whose auditions were new to me. Add to this that I haven’t followed the BGT auditions on this site religiously: so this may be old news, but I’ve just watched Poppin’ Ron’s audition piece and shook my head while laughing…

It seemed *cough* a little familiar…

Francine was a part of the last 3 “easiest yeses” but if we look what happened to Alice and Robbie… don’t know. I dismiss Asanda because they already have a female child singer. AJ and Chloe to Q maybe?

  • Tish

semi final 4 market not up yet and given comments re Francine then AJ & Chloe for the win? I just can’t see it, unless of course they get mega pimped like Gabz. Simon has said he wants to see a magician in the final so how about James More? I’m ruling out Alex Keirl purely because theres already a handful of singers and I think Simon may keep a space open for Aliki to reach the final. I don’t rate any of the other acts that highly. I suppose we will have to wait and see the betting market as that’ll give us an indication as to who’s favourite

  • Boki

I was only thinking AJ Chloe to qualify for the variety, not for the win. Good point about James, he’s at least good looking but he has to reach the top3 first. I can guess the initial favorites in the market will be Francine, Alex and Asanda.

  • Agree with all the points above. Francine for the win for me, with AJ and Chloe and James More fighting out for the other spot.

Impressionists have an excellent record on previous seasons. In 2010 Paul Burling won his semi with 36.4% from slot 4. In 2011 Les Gibson won his semi with 38.1% from slot 6. Is Francine better than those two? I would argue that she is. She also has the stats in her favour in terms of YouTube views and twitter followers.

Dance always gets a good vote when it’s performed well so I’m keeping an eye on AJ and Chloe’s treatment tonight. James More would be great for variety in the final but he has to be careful not to be too freaky with his act, as freaky doesn’t win votes on this show. I can exclusively reveal that James More wasn’t put through originally though, as he had a big rant about it on his twitter a couple of months ago. So why have they brought him back? It’s a difficult one.

Surely they won’t go for Alex Keirl or Asanda? Both have the potential to pull in a decent vote though with a good performance.

  • Tish

I went with Francine for the win (her odds we well short so has to be a sign like the others were all week) and also I can;t see anyone else pulling in more votes than her. Tonights semi is an extremley weak one. I went with James More to qualify for the value

  • Guildo Horn Forever

Have done Asanda, and AJ&C for the win.
And Asande, AJ&C and James for qualifying.

Much as I admire and enjoy Francine’s incredible talent she has a possible couple of weaknesses. A worthy odds-on favourite, mind.
And although Alex has a beauty of a voice I find him insipid and worthy and polite and dull. I think he’s a weak second favourite.

A bit frivolous but: just fancied taking on the first two in the betting for a change!.

  • stoney

well, i planned to have a day off after not fancying francine to win tonight then i saw her odds plummeting and put my biggest bet of the week on her, but im pessimistic to say the least

  • stoney

bet victor what a bunch of clowns, i tried to place a bet on aj and chloe to qualify tonight at 4/1 and while it was going through it rejected it and offered me the chance to place half the stake at 3/1, so i had to nip over to sky bet and take 10/3, theres a big gamble going on, get in there quick guys

  • Tish

I got 4/5 for Francine at 10.27 this morning so just had to lump on her without thinking too much as i knew they would plummet to almost nothing and i’d regret not doing it. The market hasn’t yet been wrong this week so hoping for 4 out 4 wins. I got 7 open bets on Coral and they won’t let me place any more!!

  • gwri78

Really grateful to all on here this week, done really well, but tonight Francine is very short… Are you sure the bookies have inside info? They’ve taken a beating on the fav all week & have opened her really short as a response, does that mean she’s more likely to win than everyone else this week, or they just want to get one in the book because everyone will back the fav regardless? Do those on the show collude to pull in fav backers – note alisha buzzing last night. I would be worried that this is just the time for the fav to be overturned & have layed her on betfair, perhaps you should consider laying off?

    • stoney

i wouldnt be suprised if the bookies are pulling a fast one to recoup there losses, like i said im highly sceptical of a francine win, but ill ride it out none the less

      • Tish

I rekon bookies will recoup tomorrow on everyone betting on attraction. I’m steering well clear of tomorrow!

        • stoney

im not, im gonna back jordan okeefe or aliki, probably jordan depending on odds, wont be able to do any last minute bets depending on running order as ill be there watching it live, but ill go on my gut instinct which will probably be jordan

      • Tish

Really? I bet it’ll be awsome to watch it live! Yeh there is space for Jordan in the final I suppose, theres always a man and a guitar act in BGT finals so you may have sewed the seed and if i get a win tonight then i’ll prob lump on him. Definatly not Aliki as we have R&A

  • stoney

francine lewis already getting pimped 🙂 PHEW

    • Tish

How do you know that? At the beginnng of the show they showed her 5th? I know thats not the right running order but how do you know shes been pimped?

  • stoney

by pimped i mean bigged up at the start of the show, blatent pushing for the win tonight for francine

  • stoney

alex kerl thrown under the bus, good news for aj and chloe

    • Tish

No one can sing that song better that Matt Cardle did on the X Factor. I take it you took a bet on AJ&Chloe qualifying? I dod Jame More that Illusionist bloke

  • stoney

here here on the matt cardle comment. Yeah i took the value odds on aj and chloe, its neck and neck between them and more, gonna come down to performing slot

  • Highlighted

Was excellent but yeah Simon don’t fancy him so he’s not chosen one tonight. Was excellent though

  • Tish

Simon threw in some negativity – so predictable but so good for us lot 🙂

  • stoney

if he closed the show hed be in the final

  • stoney

david already calling james as the wildcard lol

  • Tish

Lovin the comments on James. Got 4/1 on him this morning to qualify 🙂

  • Highlighted

Being pimped they want a magician in final.

  • Tish

SEMI FINAL 5 MARKET IS OPEN ALREADY ON LADBROKES BY THE WAY

  • stoney

another favourite in the bag 🙂 just want aj and chloe to round off what would be my best day yet

  • Tish

Come on Francine!! No pimp slot but surely the judges comments should swing it

  • Andy.

Francine just drifted to 10/11 on betfair.
Well you don’t look a gift horse in the mouth.
couldn’t get much on but that’s ok.
Thanks to stoney I taken 5/1 AJ & Chloe with Ladbrokes to Qualify.
Wouldn’t want to be anywhere else right now.

  • Andy

It didn’t last for long, went quickly to 1/2 now she’s 1/3.

  • stoney

aj and chloe on the drift, i actually preferred there audition

    • Tish

Me too. The dramatic music together with the smiley faces just didnt do it. Their audition was a million times better and a lot sexier

  • gwri78

That was me with the 10/11…. Wish id waited! Good luck

  • stoney

if aj and chloe were to come in the top 3 with asanda, i have a feeling they will save aj and chloe, i cant see them wanting 2 young singers in the final

  • Andy

Good luck to you also gwri78

  • stoney

all the money has come for james more, can see him being saved against the young girl too, good luck peeps

  • Andy

    Well done everyone.
small stakes for me tonight on a tricky semi.
small gains which means 4 profitable semis so far.
In two minds about Saturday night, my head says lump on Attraction, my heart says leave well alone. I think I am going to leave well alone.
